Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not much of a camper, GLAMPING is more my style.

So when I was invited to sleep over at the Old Mac Daddy Airstream Trailer park in Elgin by South African Tourism and Old Mac Daddy, as one of the speakers for the E – Tourism Summit, how could I say no?

From the same creators of The Grand Daddy Hotel and The Daddy Long Legs Boutique Hotel in Long Street, Cape Town – South Africa’s liveliest street, is this artsy glamping style trailer park on a working apple farm in Elgin.

Trailer with built on living area

With 11 stunning airstream trailers each uniquely decorated by a different South African artist and 1 self catering villa.

“Give Bees A Chance”  was my digs for the night and how cute is this old time mailbox?

My sunshiny welcoming bedroom, with a mini Smeg bar fridge and small seating area was inside the trailer, whilst the bathroom and rather large living area was a built on attachment.

I just had to take a peek at the family trailer with a lake view, as it was decorated by the Mucking Afazing team at Charly’s Bakery and we all know how much i love pink and cupcakes!

The shower gel and shampoo are environmentally friendly and biodegradable, as all the water on the property is recycled.

There’s also a lovely pool and pool deck area for the hot summer days for guests to enjoy!

If you are in the mood for a bike ride you can pick one up to rent for the day from reception and enjoy many of the mountain biking trails in the area. Then afterwards, grab a drink by the beach bar near on the banks of the lake. Where one can go fishing if you choose, as long as you throw the little flipper back.

The Barn

In the Barn is where you’ll have breakfast daily (included in the rate), there’s also a bar with local craft beer on tap (but of course) and one can have dinner here or just enjoy a glass of wine by the fireplace.

Light meals such as burgers and pizzas are standard fare, with the option of this delicious steak for dinner which I rather enjoyed, followed by a decadent chocolate fondue platter – generous enough for two!
