Summer is swiftly upon us and what better way to usher it in, then a night with the stars under the stars.

Celebrating their fourth year as Cape Town’s premier open air cinema, The Galileo Open Air Cinema is back with a blockbuster line-up of over 100 movies, more venues and even more magical experiences, both on and off the silver screen. Proudly presented by Savanna, The Galileo will be pulling out all the stops this summer to ensure an all round memorable experience.

Starry Starry Night at The GalileoLucky little ol’ me and my fave plus one were invited to attend The Galileo Open Air Cinema Launch at Kirstenbosch Gardens for one my all time favourite 80’s cult classic movies “Cocktail” starring Tom Cruise.

A night with the stars under the stars

It was such a treat…with so many delicious food vendors to choose from it was a tough choice.

Nachos on FireI  authentic Mexican fare won our tastebuds over in the end. Settling for a plate of chicken nachos and the works piled sky high for moi and a chicken & rice burrito for him.

There were even a couple of barmen, showing off their mixing skills and giving away FREE shots! yes you heard me right, FREE shots people…I was driving so none for me, luckily my Mr was more than happy to oblige in sampling mine and his.Starry Starry Night at The Galileo
Just before the movie started, we filled our popcorn box, grabbed our choccies and snuggled in our blankets that we were given ready for our movie.

The Galileo has gone to town this season, with new Friday screenings at selected venues across the city (The Palms, Central Park, Fedisa Rooftop, Meerendal Wine Estate and UCT), tasty new food and drink vendors, and even a VIP section that allows movie lovers to enjoy a more exclusive experience (reserved premium seats, a blanket and backrest, popcorn, sweets, a Savanna and a box of Chocolat Frey) under the stars. The popular Saturday Winelands events have also increased from one to two screenings per month, giving Capetonians the opportunity to enjoy some of the region’s most loved wine estates. These are in addition to the usual Tuesdays at Hillcrest Quarry, Wednesdays at Kirstenbosch Gardens and Thursdays at the V & A Waterfront.

Every venue offers a unique experience, from when the doors open at 6pm onto a festive market with delicious mouth-watering artisanal food and drinks (both alcoholic and soft), interactive games on hand and lively music in the air, to when the sun sets and the stars come out, both in the sky and on the screen. Bringing families, friends and strangers together, The Galileo’s is a not to be missed summer outing for all.

The Galileo, which runs from 31 October 2015 to the end of April 2016, brings all of your favourite movies and venues together with a few special touches to ensure a magical evening under a canopy of stars.
